Deborah Hoeks - Ashtanga & Yin Yang Yoga

My name is Deborah Hoeks, mother of 2 young kids, born in Eindhoven and living in Amsterdam. I studied Sports, Marketing and Communication and have worked for 15 years in mainly corporate companies before starting a new career as a yogateacher and massage therapist. I also teach Stand Up Paddle yoga classes. Movement and many sports have always been a big part of my life. Differentiating from snowboarding to soccer, I love to be ‘in action’ and was already as a teenager teaching gymnastics and taekwondo to kids. Yoga was introduced in my life because of chronic pain in my knee due to several knee injuries. The interest in the physical body was always there and those injuries made me look closer into the anatomy and musculoskeletal system.

I love to practice Ashtanga yoga because of the challenging aspect for mind and body. By practicing yoga, my awareness in the physical body grew and this helped me to reduce my chronic pain in the knee. This was just the start! It gave me also new insights and interest in the mental and subtle body to look at; like building trust for oneself, to treat oneself and others attentively and with awareness, and to allow change to happen with equanimity of mind. Yoga is for me a daily moment of ‘looking-in’, an instrument to experience well-being and stillness within the body.

My yoga journey started with a teacher training for Kids yoga. Followed by Power yoga and Hatha yoga. Those made me realize that the practice of Hatha yoga ‘in a flow’ was my practice. Ashtanga yoga became my main practice from then. I have deepened into the eight folded path of Ashtanga yoga in a 200 hours training and in trainings of international teachers as Anthony ‘Prem’ Carlisi & Heather ‘Radha’ Duplex, Luke Jordan, Michael Hamilton en Clayton Horton. Besides this very active yang-practice of Ashtanga, I am also a 200 hours certified Yin yoga teacher.

I teach Ashtanga yoga and Yin Yang yoga, classes are in English or Dutch. In my classes I love to help you explore your possibilities of body and mind by meditative movement.
